Fitness should be a part of everyone's daily life. Parents can do a few basic things to help their
children become more active including: develop awareness about fitness, set goals with your
children for
activity levels, give them praise for their efforts and lead by example!

Today's tip is on how to increase your cardiovascular endurance! This is a
key element of fitness and should be a part of your daily life.

Have your child run on the spot.
|
|
Pump their arms up and down as they go! |

These are basic ‘jumping jacks'.

Touch the ground, and then explode up with a vertical jump as high as you can!
|
|
Reaching up as you jump |
|
| |
Now we do an “endurance blitz”
Have your child ‘run on the spot' for 30 seconds
Then perform jumping jacks for 30 seconds
Then perform 10 explosions!
|
|

These activities are meant to be done as a pair, and therefore you may spend time exercising with your child! Count them out with them and make a game out of it. See how many sets of 10 repetitions of each move you can do in a one minute window! Then each week increase the time by 30 seconds!

• Today we learned three basic endurance exercises. They may be done on their own, or put together in combination like we demonstrated today.
• It should be every family member's goal
to integrate fitness into their daily lives.
• Study's show that children spend up to 5 hours per day watching TV and playing on the computer!
Try this at home: when your children are watching TV, keep an eye on the clock, and every 10 minutes or so have them get up and do an ‘endurance blitz' for 60 seconds. |
