The Karate Kids Club
is an innovative Martial Arts
program which is sweeping Ontario!!!

We bring instructors right to your elementary school, and run a 40 minute long lesson during their lunch recess or nutrition break.

The Karate Kids Club helps children learn traditional Martial Arts in a non-contact, non-competitive atmosphere. The lessons focus on character education, physical fitness training, and discussions about safety.

The Karate Kids program costs around $35.00 per month, which is less than half of the cost of regular Martial Arts lessons. Please check with your child’s school for the program start date.

For less than one third of the cost of regular after school lessons, The Karate Kids Club provides Martial Arts classes to children who may not otherwise be able to afford regular Martial Arts schools.

To ensure that no children are excluded, Karate Kids provides scholarships to those students who have the desire to learn but not the financial means to do so.
The Karate Kids Club also provides parents with the opportunity to have their children participate in Martial Arts, without the stress and time commitment which often accompanies driving back and forth in the evenings to regular classes.

Parents are thrilled when in as few as three months, participating children display newly developed positive traits such as self-esteem, listening skills, respect and increased physical fitness.  Unlike many other sports programs, which may be intimidating for some children, the Karate Kids program is a fun fitness activity where children can develop skills at their own pace.

We strive to make sure that every child who participates in a Karate Kids lesson has the chance to experience happiness, fulfillment, acknowledgment, pride and achievement! It is only through our commitment to each and every one of our students that we have had such positive results.

Developing confidence through Martial Arts achievement – The Karate Kids Program!

Once every 6 weeks students are tested for ‘progress stripes’. The progress stripes are earned through completing Martial Arts tests as well as homework assignments based on the Character Education lessons. These progress stripes are accumulated on the student’s belt until they are ready to graduate to the next coloured belt.

The coloured belt testings take place approximately two times during the academic year. The belt tests are held during the Karate Kids classes, while the graduation ceremonies are held at our local instructor’s Martial Arts Center. These graduation ceremonies are the opportunity for friends and family members to see what their “Karate Kids” have learned in class.

This combination of short term goal setting (progress stripes) and long term goal setting (new belts) keeps our students motivated to achieve!

Karate Kids Canada
is a committed team of Martial Arts and Fitness Instructors devoted to bringing the benefits of Martial Arts and character development to children in elementary schools across Canada.

We believe in providing cost-effective, accessible, superior programs.  Through our unique combination of Martial Arts, physical fitness and character-education lessons it is the goal of Karate Kids to make a significant and lasting impact on the lives of our students.

Karate Kids Canada's top priorities are:

• To Build Strong Moral Character:
Karate Kids classes are designed to bring awareness to the concepts of integrity, self-discipline, courtesy and compassion.  Character talks and reward-based assignments integrate these concepts into students’ daily activities.

• To Introduce Children to Basic Martial Arts:
Traditional Martial Arts helps students develop focus, discipline, and concentration through a controlled class environment, repetitive practice of essential Martial Arts movements and an emphasis on the development of each student’s character, as opposed to winning or losing a game.  Karate Kids’ ratio of at least 1 instructor to 20 students ensures that the learning atmosphere is well supervised and controlled.

• To Make Students Feel Important and Acknowledged:
We at Karate Kids Canada feel that the development of each child's self confidence is an essential part of our program.  Therefore, we have incorporated several forms of acknowledgment into our program, and we strive to recognize every participant in each class.  Our program features leadership team participation, earned character-education badges, and monthly progress checks designed to give participants regular, positive feedback.

•  To Increase Levels of Physical Fitness and Focus:
Karate Kids ensures that participants enjoy at least 20 minutes of vigorous physical activity in each class, in a non-contact, non-competitive atmosphere.  Our exclusive games teach and develop fine motor-skills and increase students' strength and endurance.  Repetitive practice of traditional Martial Arts increases self-control and focus.

History of The Karate Kids Club

Years of discipline and daily practice lead Shihan Rob Tallack to win two gold medals at the 2001 World Karate Championships, held that year in Atlanta Georgia. Upon his return to Canada, Shihan Tallack was congratulated by the Prime Minister of Canada, Jean Chretien.

At that time, Shihan Tallack realized that he wanted
a way to share the benefits of traditional Martial Arts
with as many children as possible.

Shihan Tallack had the chance as a young boy to spend a number of years living in Japan, studying with the world's leading Masters of Martial Arts. During that time, Shihan Tallack attended Japanese elementary school and experienced the daily inclusion of traditional Martial Arts in the Japanese education system.

The benefits of studying Traditional Martial Arts carried over into Shihan's life. It gave him the focus, concentration, discipline, and work ethic to become a World Champion in Karate, and it has led him to enjoy successes in many other areas of his life. He realized that his valuable knowledge and experience would benefit many children, and he wanted a way to reach as many children as possible.

There are two main concerns associated with after school Martial Arts lessons:

1. A great number of families do not have the time to take their children to ANOTHER evening activity.

2. The cost of professional Martial Arts schools often falls outside the budgets of many families.

The solution that Shihan Tallack developed was to bring Black Belt instructors right to the children at their school during the lunch hour recess!
This results in both of the
obstacles being overcome!!!

The Karate Kids classes take place during the children's lunch hour recess, which maximizes their time during the day. The overheads associated with the Karate Kids program are minimal therefore; we are able to offer the program at a very low monthly fee. This provides many more children with the opportunity to participate in Martial Arts.
The results have been spectacular!

Shihan Tallack began the Karate Kids program in 2001, with 3 schools and 50 students. The Program has now grown to service over 60 schools, and has an enrolment of over 2500 participants! It is Shihan Tallack's goal to provide access to the Karate Kids program to elementary schools across Canada, and to play a role in positively affecting children's character development across the country.

The community has spoken!
Both parents and students love
the Karate Kids program!!!

TALLACK FAMILY AND THE MARTIAL ARTS

The Karate Kids program was founded by
Robert and Kenneth Tallack in 2001.

Kyoshi (Professor) Kenneth Tallack, 8th Degree Black Belt, has been teaching Martial Arts for over 32 years, and is a pioneer of professional Marital Arts in Canada.

Robert Tallack's mother, Sharon Berman holds a 5th degree Black Belt as well. Robert began his Martial Arts training before he could even walk, as his father had him doing the splits as an infant. Robert is truly the original “Karate Kid”.

The Tallack family moved to Japan in 1990 in order for the family to further their Martial Arts education, and study Japanese language, history, philosophy and culture.

It was during this time that Robert attended Japanese Elementary School (Kami-Ashibetsh Sho Gakko) and had the opportunity to participate in the school's Martial Arts programs. Robert never forgot the elevated levels of focus, concentration, respect, and courtesy that he witnessed in the Japanese education system.

Upon returning to Canada, Kenneth and Robert Tallack moved to Kingston, Ontario, Canada and opened Tallack Martial Arts.

Shortly after winning the World Karate Championships in 2001, Robert began the Karate Kids program in Kingston, and its incredible success in that city helped the program to grow across Ontario!
