• WHO ARE THE KARATE KIDS’ INSTRUCTORS?

    Each class is taught by a local high belt rank Martial Arts Instructor. They are partnered with 1-2 other instructors who are certified fitness trainers or fitness enthusiasts that have the important role of walking around the class, ensuring your child enjoys their experience and is available to give one to one attention to the students during the class.

    Additionally, all of our Instructors take part in an in-house comprehensive training program prior to teaching a Karate Kids class. New instructors are always paired up with senior instructors for a term for extra training. In addition, they have all provided annual clear Vulnerable Sector Screens or Criminal Record Checks as required by our company and the school boards.

  • HOW MANY WEEKS IS THE PROGRAM?

    The Karate Kids program is an 11-week class at most schools. Depending on gym space availability, the class may be 1-2 weeks shorter and the price will be adjusted accordingly.

    WHERE AND WHEN DO THE CLASSES TAKE PLACE?

    Classes take place in the school gymnasium, one designated day per week, during the lunch-hour recess or the 40-minute nutrition breaks (depending on your region).

    HOW LONG ARE KARATE KIDS’ CLASSES?

    Classes are 40 minutes long with a minimum of 25 minutes of high-energy movement.

    WHAT GRADES CAN PARTICIPATE IN THE CLASS?

    To find out what grade range will be offered at your child’s school, you will have to wait for program information to be sent home from the school. Karate Kids is typically offered to students in grades 1 through 5. However, the offered grade range can differ in each school depending on the Principal’s decision.

    WHAT IS THE AVERAGE CLASS SIZE?

    An average Karate Kids class has 36 to 45 students and 2 Instructors. In larger classes, Karate Kids maintains a ratio of 1 Instructor to 20 students. For enrolment, Karate Kids accepts members on a first come first served basis.

    WHEN WILL STUDENTS HAVE TIME TO EAT?

    Students are given ample time to eat before or after the Karate Kids class.

    WHAT SHOULD MY CHILD WEAR TO CLASS?

    Your child should wear a comfortable t-shirt and pants/shorts and indoor athletic shoes. Karate Kids students’ will be given a team uniform, made up of a t-shirt and a karate belt. Uniforms will be handed out during the first three weeks of class and is included in the membership fee. The T-shirt is meant to be worn all day on KARATE CLASS DAY and the belt is to be brought to class.

    WHAT HAPPENS WHEN A CLASS IS CANCELLED?

    When a class is cancelled due to inclement weather or a school event using the gym that day, we will do our best to accommodate adding a make-up class during the program length. However, this is not something we can guarantee.

    In the rare case we are not able to make up a class that was cancelled due to circumstances beyond our control, NO refund will be available for the missed class.

  • WHAT IS THE REFUND POLICY?

    If, during the first three classes, you or your child feel the Karate Kids program is not the right fit, you may withdraw from the program and receive a refund for the remaining classes.

    After the third class, refunds are no longer available.

    Why do we have this policy?

    One of the core values we teach at Karate Kids is commitment.

    Children naturally encounter new interests and distractions. Learning to follow through on something they have started, even when it becomes challenging or something new comes along, is an important life skill.

    Each time a child honours a commitment, they strengthen qualities like perseverance, resilience, responsibility, and follow-through. Like any skill, these character traits develop through practice.

    One of the most rewarding moments of the program is Graduation Day, when students receive the next colour stripe for their belt. After weeks of effort and commitment, they experience a genuine sense of pride and accomplishment that helps build confidence and self-esteem in other areas of their life.

    HOW DO I WITHDRAW MY CHILD FROM THE PROGRAM?

    If you need to withdraw your child from the Karate Kids program, simply email us at info@karatekids.ca or contact your designated Program Manager by email.

    To ensure all withdrawal requests are received and processed accurately, we are only able to accept withdrawal requestsdirectly from a parent or guardian by email. Unfortunately, we cannot accept handwritten notes sent to the school, notes delivered by students, or verbal messages from children, as these can occasionally be misplaced or not reach us.

    Your child will remain enrolled and should continue attending classes until we receive an official withdrawal email from a parent or guardian.

  • WHAT IS THE KARATE KIDS UNIFORM

    The Karate Kids uniform consists of a Karate Kids team t-shirt and a karate belt.

    Unlike traditional martial arts clubs, we do not use a gi (jacket) or karate pants. Wearing a team t-shirt for the whole day allows students to arrive at class ready to participate, giving us more time to focus on learning, fitness, and fun instead of changing clothes.

    Most students begin with a White Belt and can progress through the Karate Kids belt system by earning a Yellow Stripe, Orange Stripe, and Black Stripe over three terms in the program.

    Please Note: Karate belts should not be washed, as the stickers may peel off and the coloured stripes may run.

    MY CHILD ALREADY HAS A KARATE UNIFORM, CAN THEY WEAR IT TO KARATE KIDS CLASS?

    The short answer is no.

    One of our goals is to create a strong sense of teamwork and belonging, so all students wear the same Karate Kids team uniform during class.

    We also do not use traditional karate uniforms because changing before and after class would take valuable time away from the lesson.

    Students who already have previous martial arts experience are welcome to wear the highest-ranking belt they have earned. It's a wonderful way to recognize their hard work and achievements while inspiring other students.

    Students with previous martial arts experience and higher-ranking belts may also be selected for Leadership Team opportunities earlier in the program, as they often have additional karate knowledge and experience.

    WHAT LEVEL OF MARTIAL ARTS TRAINING CAN MY CHILD ACHIEVE IN THIS CLASS?

    The Karate Kids program is a basic-level introduction to martial arts. Students learn non-contact foundational movements in a fun, supportive environment that helps them build confidence, coordination, focus, and leadership skills.

    Karate is just one part of the program. We also help children develop important life skills such as respect, self-discipline, perseverance, social connection, mindfulness, and self-regulation.

    If your goal is for your child to pursue more advanced martial arts training, we encourage you to continue their journey at a local Martial Arts Centre. If your child enjoys Karate Kids and wants to take their training further, it's a wonderful next step.

  • HOW DO I REGISTER MY CHILD IN KARATE KIDS?

    Registration takes place through our secure online registration system, which can be accessed by clicking the REGISTER button on our website.

    When Does Registration Open?

    There is no early registration. Approximately 7–10 days before the first Karate Kids class, every student at your child's school will receive a Karate Kids enrolment form to take home.

    School Code

    Each enrolment form includes a unique School Code at the top of the first page. You will need to enter this code when registering your child online.

    First come, First Served

    Class sizes are limited and enrolment is accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, so we encourage you to register as soon as you receive your child's enrolment form to secure a spot in the class for them.

    What If the Class Is Full?

    If you receive a message indicating the class is full, don't worry! There is still a very good chance your child may get a spot. Simply follow the instructions provided to add your child to the waitlist.

    Late Registration

    If space is still available, we accept new registrations up to and including the fourth class of the program.

    HOW DO I PAY FOR KARATE KIDS?
